ENORMOUS, PURE MAGIC, THREE OUT OF THREE !

Lundi 05 Décembre 2011

Never could you imagine 8 days ago, Montpellier had three matches to play in 8 days, Clermont at home, Lyon and Biarritz away, anyone with any sense would maybe state a win and two defensive bonus points, or two wins and a bonus point, three wins and an attacking bonus point, don’t be ridiculous well my friends that’s exactly what happened. Sunday afternoon Montpellier beat Biarritz by 4 tries to 1, the final score 23-30 sounds incredible but incredible it was.

Montpellier with massive fatigue in their bodies showed what courage and honour for your club is all about, they went into this match with an attitude seen often last season but less frequent this season, the forwards were magnificent, the defence of the whole team showed that the hard work in the last few weeks was paying off, the backs threw the ball about and attacked when ever possible, sometimes a little lateral but then no one is perfect.

The Basques were first over the try line a Timmy Nagusa attack saw him isolated 10mts from the Basque try line the ball was collected by the defence, 10 passes and 80 mts. later N’Gwenya dived into the corner of the hallowed ground, probably this try will be voted Try of the Month.

Montpellier soon were back on terms,  Paillaugue slipped the ball to Nagusa on the blindside and over he went for his 4th try of the season, at the pause for lemons BO. just had their noses in front 11-8. The first half had taken its toll with both Captain Ouedraogo and Privat both leaving the park with what looked like fairly serious injuries; they were replaced by Martin and De Marco.

The second half saw Montpellier full of magic potion, attack after attack, the forwards dominating up front and if the defence was needed it was stone wall!!!

The forwards advanced and after a series of pick and go’s Creevy flipped a pass out of the back of his hand for Mika De Marco to crash over under the sticks, Bustos Moyano added the extras. A moment of magic from fullback Lucas Amorosino who gathered the ball 40mts. out, side stepped, swerved left and right leaving the defence grabbing fresh air and before any could say Abracadabra he had planted the ball firmly over the try line.

The final nail in the Basque coffin was an immense scrum 30mts out the 8 forwards exerted a massive shove and their counterparts  were in full reverse gear, Matadigo picked up served Trinh-Duc on a silver salver and the  Montpellerian no.10 did the rest, 4 tries to one, the bonus point firmly in the pocket and just 3 mins.

to the siren. BO. did manage a late penalty to earn themselves a defensive bonus point but most of the Basque supporters had already left the ground!!!

3 matches in 8 days, before this little episode we had a total of 14 pts from 9 games, we now have 27pts, 13pts in 8 days not bad for a team that people were beginning to write off, Montpellier are now insight of the TOP 6.

Massive congratulations to all who performed a deserved victory but with a cost, 2 more players in the infirmary, and with 2 H Cup games against Glasgow on the horizon, then Toulouse and Racing at home over the Christmas and New Year festivities, the medical staff will be working flat out to get everyone fit and ready.

Another massive blow for the club is that our trainer Eric Bechu is on medical leave for 3 months he has to have an operation and will be absent until sometime in March. We all wish him well and hope for a successful and very speedy recovery.

Fabien Galthie and Didier Bes will share the responsibilities until Eric’s return.
