LEINSTER THE ARRIVAL OF A CHAMPION

Mercredi 09 Novembre 2011

Leinster played their first rugby around 1875 when the programme was inter-provincial rugby between Leinster, Munster, and Ulster, shortly afterwards in 1879 the Leinster rugby club was formed along with the 4 provincial teams of Ireland.

In the 90’s  like many other rugby clubs the Leinster turned professional and became known as Leinster Lions, this name was kept until the 2000/01 season when with new sponsors Canterbury of New Zealand  the club took the name of Leinster Rugby which it still holds today.

Leinster is a rugby club where success is their middle name, especially in recent years with H Cup success in 2009 and 2011, winning the cup last season against Northampton Saints in the final at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff.

The Irish were 22-6 down when they rallied in the second half to score an impressive 27-0 to take the trophy by 33-22 and therefore are the present holders of the H Cup.

Leinster rugby hold a long list of International players both past and present, Brian O’ Driscoll, Jamie Heaslip, Jonathan Sexton and Sean O’Brian just to mention a few of Leinster’s 2011 World Cup players, there are others, and many who have gone before, Ollie Campbell, Victor Costello and the world famous Irish centre Dr. Mike Gibson, many of these players were formed by the club and have only ever played for Leinster and Ireland.

Leinster also have had domestic success winning the Magners League in 2001 and 2008 and runners up in 2002, 2010, a team that brings with them  not only success on the domestic and European fields, but probably one of the biggest away support in Europe , their supporters follow Leinster from Munster to Montpellier in their pursuit of new titles a very proud band of followers who are known for their vocal support during the game, and top the bill with pre and after match festivities, the bars in Montpellier will remember the visit of these  Charming Irish and Leinster supporters, the “Craic” will be in Montpellier next Saturday.

A magnificent rugby team and one massive challenge for our heroes from Montpellier, but with this weeks game against Lyon postponed, the coaches Bechu, Bes, and master technician Fabien Galthie, will have left no detail to chance, videos, videos and more videos will have been watched by next Saturday afternoon, and the Montpellier squad will know Leinster better than most of their own family.

A mouth watering first ever H Cup game for Montpellier against European Champions Leinster, at La Mosson, ko.14.30 next Saturday 12th Nov.

If you love rugby there is absolutely no reason not to be present,  Leinster European Champions, Montpellier with all its Internationals back from the World Cup, Francois Trinh-Duc, Fulgence Ouedraogo, Mamuka Gorgordze, Massi Matadigo, and their first ever H Cup showing, does it get any better than this!!!

ALLEZ MONTPELLIER...
