MOVEMBER 5€’s and 5 POINTS

Lundi 05 Novembre 2012

A brilliant commercial scoop was  performed by the Montpellier comm. this first day of Movember , firstly  the club asked all the males to grow moustaches  for the month of Movember ( a charity to give awareness of prostrate cancer amongst males) which gave access to the Stadium for the match against Mont de Marsan absolutely free of charge, the rest of the places were sold for  the minute sum of 5 €’s, the fact that it was a National holiday (All Saints Day) and many people were taking advantage of the fine weather to leave the area for a few days, Montpellier were playing bottom of the table Mont de Marsan, never easy to bring in the large crowds, (obviously no disrespect to the visitors) so when the attendance was announced as 13,189 everyone applauded the success of the affair.

The match itself was a game of, “winning is not important as long as you win with the bonus point” a stop start affair of penalties, yellow cards 2 for the visitors and one for Montpellier and mistakes galore by the home side, but to play badly and come away with the 5 points gives credit to Montpellier for never giving in to some very negative play by the opposition, Montpellier’s play in the second half was a definite improvement but more points should have been scored!!! 4 tries were scored by the home side, 2 from the young and promising Yoan Artru, and 2 from the Fijian flyer Jimmy Nagusa playing for the second time at centre, who unfortunately hung on to the ball a little too often with men outside him who would have had Christmas present tries, but the coaches will have noted and reported the misdemeanours. Martin Bustos-Moyano kicked well missing only one difficult touch line effort and came away with a very reasonable 12 points, not to mention the disallowed try he scored which to everyone bar the referee was without fault, once again the man in the middle made some strange and obscure decisions., but in France it seems to be the order of the day.  The ex Montpellier flanker Vassili Bost got himself on the score board in injury time with a try from close quarters which was transformed with a drop goal attempt to give the visitors a token of respect. Final score Montpellier 32  Mont de Marsan 16

A total of 9 points from 2 games and an unbeaten run of 5 games on the trot, Montpellier are still 4th but they have created a very important 11 points gap between them and the 7th non qualifying place, but with a visit to Toulouse Friday the 9th Movember ko. 20.50, their task will be to say the least, very difficult, the Autumn Internationals are about to start and Toulouse will have a massive absenteeism with selection, injuries, and suspension, this could be Montpellier’s finest hour and chance to come away with what would be a surprise but excellent victory, but they are by no means favourites and they will have to play out of their skins to succeed, but the impossible is always possible!!!
