HISTORY
- 1900 : the first civil rugby club is born ; students and professional soldiers join the ‘Montpellier Sportif’

Summer 1963 : the ‘XV’ founds ‘le Stade Montpelliérain’
- 1974 : crisis amongst the Directors of the Board ; the Club splits off.
As a consequence two news teams, the ‘Stade Montpelliérain’ and the ‘Montpellier Université Club’ known as the ‘MUC’, are created
- 1985-1986 : The ‘MUC’ accedes to the Elite Division – first division
- 1986 -1987 : Mr Georges FRECHE, mayor of Montpellier, influences the merge of the two local rugby clubs : creation of ‘Montpellier Rugby Club’ (MRC)
- June 1998 : both athletic and financial sanctions are taken against the Club.
The MRC falls back to ‘Elite 2’, the national second division
- July 1998 : new management and organization charts : drastic decisions are taken to bring about a financial recovery. Thierry Perez and Jean-Jacques Sauveterre are put in place as co-presidents. Jean-Pierre Massines is appointed Financial and Administration Director
- 1999-2000 : ‘Montpellier Rugby Club’ accedes to the newly restructured ‘Pro D2’ division
- 2000-2001 : The Club founds its own recruiting and training academy
- 2002-2003 : Montpellier Rugby Club wins all home games. The same year, the Club wins the Pro D2 championship and makes its come back to ‘Top 14’ the Elite Pro Division.
The MRC is renamed and bears its current name : ‘Montpellier Hérault Rugby Club’.
On their shirts, the players bear the cist flower, the historical and highly symbolic emblem of the city
- 2003-2004 : MHRC wins the Parker Pen Shield and becomes the first club in the whole province of Languedoc Roussillon to win a European Cup
- 2004-2005 : at the end of a tough season, the Team still maintains its position amongst the ‘Top 14’.
The Club’s flagship store “Esprit de Rugby” is being opened the same year.
The Club Academy Program is ranked in first national category and is, as a consequence, the only regional program to gain the highest academy status.
